How NLP Can Change Your Limiting Beliefs Part 2

My last post addressed what NLP recognizes as the three main types of limiting beliefs:

Worthlessness

Hopelessness

Helplessness

NLP tries to challenge these limiting beliefs so that you can think more positively about your chances of success, and alter your thoughts and behaviours accordingly. Examples of the questions that NLP asks of you if you have these limiting beliefs include:

Why is it you feel you are undeserving of success/happiness?

Why is it you can’t succeed?

What prevents you from succeeding alone?

Asking yourself these questions help you uncover what thoughts and feelings are causing your limiting beliefs. Once you have found out what has been holding you back, NLP will start to address whether those beliefs are in your best interest and how you can challenge those beliefs and change them.

NLP will also give you tools that help you change the way you respond to situations so that you can feel the hopeful, ready, and confident in what you can achieve. By challenging your beliefs and giving you the tools that you need to regain your confidence, you will quickly stop experiencing these limiting belief patterns and help yourself get the mindset you need to achieve your goals. Within no time you will have the positive, “go getter” personality you have always wanted.

How NLP Can Change Your Limiting Beliefs Part 1

Limiting beliefs are a negative form of thinking that can drastically alter your chances of succeeding in a given situation. It focuses your mind on failure, and it attracts things to you that will result in little chance of success. Limiting beliefs make achieving – if not attempting – success nearly impossible, and can vastly alter the way that you experience the world. When you feel that you are experiencing many limited beliefs, you need to try to change your outlooks and have hope for the future.

NLP is one of the best ways to stop your limiting beliefs. It can empower you to attempt to achieve what you set out for yourself, and has the ability to alter the way that you view your chances of success in all situations.

NLP recognizes three different types of limiting beliefs:

Worthlessness – Any belief that somehow you as a person do not deserve to achieve the success you wish to achieve.

Hopelessness – That there is no/slim likelihood for your success.

Helplessness – It is not success that is the problem. It is that you cannot do it on your own.

It is these three types of limiting beliefs that NLP focuses on addressing. In my next post, I will talk about the questions NLP asks in order to challenge these beliefs that help you overcome this type of harsh negative thinking.

3 Ways to Stop Limiting Yourself

When you believe you are not deserving of success or doubt yourself from the start, you make your chances of success considerably slimmer. Your best chance at success is to believe you can succeed, because only then will you be able to give it the effort that you need to truly achieve it.

Limiting beliefs are often caused by poor thinking habits. The following exercises are known to be good ways to change negative thinking into positive thinking.

Write About Only Good Things – When you experience your day, write everything you experienced down in your journal – but only what you enjoyed about the experience. Force yourself to write at least a page if not more about all of the good things about the experience, even if it ended in a negative event. Do not qualify the good things with “buts” or “only” – these should all be unquestionably positive things.

Write Out Affirmations with Both Hands – An interesting exercise for increasing your positive outlook is to write positive affirmations out twice – once with your dominant hand, once with your weak hand. This ensures both parts of your brain are activated by the affirmation, helping improve your positivity.

Fake It – A final exercise is to simply pretend you don’t feel the way you do. Limiting beliefs are limiting because of the way that you respond to the scenario. But simply by pretending as though you are not limiting yourself, you can get used to how positivity looks and feels – and possibly even accomplish those things you set out for yourself.

It is very important to reduce the “Cannots” and “Will Nots” in your life. Only by reducing limiting beliefs do you no longer limit yourself and your abilities.

5 Examples of Limiting Beliefs, and Their Consequences

One of the most common things that stops people from achieving their goals is that of limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs are thoughts/attitudes towards various situations that affect the way you see the possibilities and potential. Examples of limiting beliefs include:

I’m not good enough.

I may never be able to succeed.

Other people are better than me.

I’m probably going to fail.

He/She doesn’t want someone like me.

These are all examples of beliefs that limit what you can accomplish. They limit it because they affect how you respond to the situation, how you react to new stimuli, how you make decisions and how others view your abilities. Limiting beliefs are self-fulfilling – if you don’t believe you can, you probably won’t.

Limiting beliefs get in the way of how successful you can be, because they automatically put you at a disadvantage. If you take two people of equal skills, and one of them doesn’t believe they can do it and the other one can, the one that believes they can is going to be the successful one every time. In my next blog post, I will go over some exercises that you can do to reduce your limiting beliefs.

What Happens When the Conscious and the Unconscious Mind Disagree?

Recently I have had several posts on the unconscious and conscious mind, and how hypnosis acts as an opening for new ideas to be placed in your unconscious in order to affect your conscious mind. However, one of the reasons people see hypnosis experts is because of what occurs when your conscious mind is struggling with your unconscious.

An example of this is when you need to go to your boss and ask for a raise. Your conscious mind knows it is important, but your unconscious mind is telling you negative things and trying to get you to stop. What happens is that as these two systems battle, you start to experience a great deal of stress and anxiety – and the more they battle, the worse it gets. Dealing with struggles between your conscious and unconscious is one of the causes of persistent, chronic anxiety.

These battles can only be treated by altering your unconscious so that it provides less resistance to your consciousness – in other words, they can be treated using effective hypnosis or NLP techniques. If you are experiencing this type of chronic, persistent stress, look to hypnosis as a way to resolve the conflict between your conscious and unconscious mind.

14 February 2011

Why Hypnosis is Needed to Change the Unconscious Mind Part 2

Earlier I talked about why hypnosis is seen as the best way to address the unconscious mind, which is prone to resistance to change, making it hard to alter unwanted behaviours and beliefs. Hypnosis is one of the only ways to open up the unconscious for suggestion, making it one of the few ways to address problems with your thought patterns. Still, the question remains – what is it that makes hypnotherapy so effective?

How Hypnotherapy Works

Hypnotherapy is not a form of sleep – indeed, it is far more like a more extreme version of being awake, with an awareness of one’s own self that is nearly impossible outside of such a trance like state. The words of the hypnotherapist will draw your attention away from your conscious/analytical mind, and in doing so lowers the barriers that stop your unconscious mind from reaching consciousness.

Only with these barriers gone is your unconscious ready to be changed. Imagine hypnosis as you would a battle between your “old” beliefs and a new state of consciousness. The old beliefs have more experience and are able to battle back the new ideas, which are trying to take over your mind. However, hypnosis is like a diversion that draws the old belief army away, leaving the mind open for the new ideas to take over.

That is why hypnosis works so well – it opens the pathway for the new beliefs to be placed. Once the new beliefs have been given a home, the unconscious mind will start influencing the conscious mind in more positive, healthier ways.

Dare to live - Overcome your Fears !

7 December 2010

As a NLP Master Coach, Healer and Intuitive Medium I help people overcome their personal barriers and limitations. Every day I help people to open their minds and seek resolutions to their challenges, build their confidence and see possibilities and prove life after death!

In my life I have faced many challenges and it feels to me like I have already lived many lives just within this one. I was poor, homeless, abused, worked hard but had also lavished life and partied with the rich. There is always more to do, more challenges, more to achieve and more fun to have!

We all like to stick to the way life is; we are programmed by nature to fight change as change is uncertainty and it can mean death and most of us are scared of dying as we see this as the end. I have been very fortunate to have a clinic death at the age of 2 so I know that dying is just a change of state and it feels very freeing. I am very fortunate also to be a medium and be able to “speak to the dead” so dying doesn’t really bother me. However I do have my own fears and face daily challenges like anyone else.

We are all boxed in our environment, controlled by our habits by what society tells us is right or wrong or how we should behave. Very often are behaviours run into an “auto pilot” so we do not even realise what we do and why. Most of us are not conscious and do not to seek to understand our own nature. As I my passion is to inspire change in others and to celebrate life & death I want to set example to everyone and prove that if I can overcome or if any human can overcome their own limitations everyone else can too!

I never liked rollercoaster rides or sudden falls! Even when I went to the Thorpe park with my family I stayed in the car (how boring!) as I just didn’t want to go on any rides! Although plane flights are fine - to do a sky jump is not something I ever wanted to do! Trust me – that was something that I would just say was for crazy people! Because really why would anyone endanger their own life for purpose of a few minutes of adrenalin frill? Stupid isn’t it???

Well, stupid or not - that was my way of thinking then and my big fear! Well, we have to feel the fear and do it anyway! Life changes all the time we cannot stay still, the time is moving, the earth is moving and the galaxy is changing all the time. The only way to feel happy and to embrace change and live life to the full is to go with it and welcome the challenges and break through fears. See the challenges as opportunities and personal tests and lessons. Think of it as a game - a life game and make it fun. Make life what you want it to be and don’t listen to limiting beliefs of others of what’s possible or not. If you really want to do something go for it!

Today I have embraced on my biggest fear! Sky Jumping from 14,000 ft.!!!!!!! Wow! that was one of the most frightening things I have ever done in my life! When I boarded the plane I didn’t really think too much I guess my mind wasn’t really registering the fear! I was really blank! Once the plane starting rising up and I felt the wind and the first person jumped out – suddenly I really felt – wow oh my gosh – “what am I doing”! I am honest with you - I was really scared but I knew there was no turning back – I had to do it! I just thought – oh well if they can do it I can do it too! Right? Trust me- this is not easy when you look down on the earth far far far away under you! I sent love to all my family and friends and asked my guides to look after me and just jumped off!

Wooooooooooow!!!!!!!!!!!! Words cannot really describe the feeling of falling. I know I felt the pressure of the wind, the fall – was a bit cold and I couldn’t really move much. I saw how incredible the earth is and how it must be wonderful for the birds to be able to fly. When you fall – you don’t really feel like you’re falling – the 60 seconds or so of the fall do however last a long time! - as the time really slows down. My body was in a shock and it took me a while to get back to reality. The only inconvenience was the pain in my ears as I struggled to equalise the pressure.

When the parachute opened everything slowed down even more and I have enjoyed the magnificent views over the vast land and the beautiful ocean. It was marvellous – the best ever experience in my life!!!!! I was scared initially but I loved it and I am so happy that I have done it and I know that if I can do that – I CAN DO ANYTHING! I am so happy and so grateful!

So I wish you all to break through your own fears! Embrace your fears and welcome them to give you courage to go through life with passion and excitement. Life is to be enjoyed so have fun and live to the full!

If you ever have any challenges and require help to break through your fears – CALL ME AS I AM THE RIGHT and THE BEST PERSON TO HELP YOU !

How Hypnosis can assist Change

As mentioned in the last post, the unconscious mind is resistant to change, yet plays a powerful role in your perceptions. Forged on your own experiences and previous, the unconscious mind is constantly working behind the scenes, often affecting the conscious mind rather than vice versa. It believes what it wants to believe and does not want to hear its beliefs are wrong. Indeed, even the conscious mind, which may want to change, is still resistant to accepting that its perceptions may be wrong.

That is why people look to hypnosis to affect things like:

Self confidence

Self worth

Grief

And other issues that impact your life. Hypnosis uses the power of suggestion to relax both your conscious and unconscious mind so that they no longer hold the barriers that prevent you from tapping into your unconscious, finding out what experiences have caused it to hold the beliefs and thought patterns it holds, and change the accordingly so that they no longer affect you in the future.

Other forms of treatment are still at risk of unconscious resistance. You can be told as often as you want to feel more confident, but if you cannot change the thought pattern or address the issues that caused you to feel little confidence, the treatment is going to struggle.

Hypnosis, on the other hand, receives no resistance, because it is designed to relax your mind and put you in a heightened state of awareness, leaving you open and ready to have your perceptions changed in a psychologically healthier manner.

How Does Your Unconscious Interfere with Your Conscious Mind?

Every second you are experiencing thousands of new stimuli that your brain is attempting to process. Simply by staring at this screen right now, your brain is processing the words you are reading, the computer screen, the keyboard, the noises around you, the remainder of the web page and so on.

Everything you can notice right now is part of your conscious mind. You are processing it, you can look at it, remember it, etc. But how you perceive this writing, and many of the feelings you get when you think about your own life are a result of your unconscious mind – the area of your mind that stores the events of your past that impact the way you feel and perceive the present. Deep within your unconscious are the events that affected who you are today, and while there are many important events that you can remember, there are also many that you have buried deep within the recesses of your mind.

However, though they may be buried, they are no less powerful. Your unconscious mind not only affects how you see the world around you, but it also is the least resistant to change, because it is founded on experiences in life and not based on your own thoughts and desires.

It is for this reason that hypnosis is needed to treat many different emotional, psychological, and life impacting problems. In my next post, I will go over why hypnosis is used and how it is so effective.

What Will Happen After Hypnosis?

During a hypnosis session designed to improve your confidence and reduce your feelings of not being good enough, you will not only explore what has caused you to believe that you don’t have enough value – the hypnosis expert will also use the power of suggestion to alter the way your own brain responds to situations that will normally inspire feelings of low self worth.

The Hypnotherapist will use known methods of altering your thought process so that the next time you experience the situation where feelings of not being good enough used to occur, you will instead be filled with readiness for the situation.

But perhaps most impressive is that these feelings will be completely natural for you – as though you have always had the confidence that you needed to succeed in these situations. Because hypnosis is able to tap into your relaxed mind, the way that your thinking pattern worked can be changed, and the end result is a new, natural thought pattern that is far more beneficial for your life.

You can be told that you need to feel more confident. You can:

Read books.

Attend lectures.

Get advice from friends.

And much, much more. But until your mind is ready to accept the new way of thinking, you will not be able to achieve the confidence that you need. Hypnosis is able to alter your thought patterns using nothing but words and your willingness to accept change – and that is why it is the best way to gain confidence in yourself again.

When in Doubt, Fake it!

NLP recognizes the power of changing your states to help yourself achieve new, healthier emotions in a variety of situations. One of the reasons this is so powerful is because your response to your surroundings is often self fulfilling – if you think you are going to fail, you are more likely to fail. If you think people see you a certain way, chances are that they will, because they will pick up on your own thoughts. Similarly, if you change your state to be more confident, people will pick up on this confidence instead.

You can utilize this on your own as well. When there are days that you are not feeling good enough – times that you assume you are not going to succeed – pretend that you do. By pretending that you do feel good enough and going after the situation despite every ounce of your being telling you otherwise, you will give off the impression that you DO think you are good enough, and people will respond accordingly.

Hypnosis and NLP are designed to treat the causes of your low self confidence and self esteem so that you can more easily go after those things that are important to you. By simply by pretending that you do not have these feelings of not being good enough, and instead acting as though you have all of the confidence in the world, you will soon find that the feeling becomes easier and easier over time.

Why Fear of Failure Should Never Hold You Back

One of the primary reasons that people do not go out to reach their goals is because of the fear of failure. The belief is that if you do not try, then you can’t fail, because how can you fail at something you are not attempting.

But this is a false belief. When you do not try to attempt anything, you also cannot succeed. A person that does not do anything to try to succeed is a person that is failing, because you have wasted your time not trying to achieve your goals.

That is why hypnosis is so important for removing that belief and helping you achieve success. With hypnosis you will start to recognize the following:

That the benefits of success are greater than the damages of failure.

That failing does not reflect a flaw in character, but not trying does.

That you have a responsibility to yourself to try to achieve as much as you can in your short time on earth.

Fear of failure is natural, because it is not uncommon for you to feel as though failure at a task is a reflection of who you are as a person. But all failure shows is that you care enough to try, and with hypnosis you will help yourself come to that realization, and find yourself with greater drive to break the monotony of your life and achieve what you know you can achieve.

How to Improve Your Ambition with Hypnosis

Earlier I talked about helpful tips for improving your natural ambition, so that you can achieve your goals more easily. With hypnosis, you can give yourself that extra, powerful boost that you need to really kick your ambition into gear.

Hypnosis addresses two issues that are directly related to ambition:

Motivation

Fear of Failure

Hypnosis starts by helping to program your mind for the possibilities that exist in the world for you. Everyone has experienced some form of success, and many people start to believe that that is all there is. But hypnosis can help you realize all of the possibilities in store for you, filling your head with dreams that will motivate you to turn them into a reality.

Hypnosis also addresses the fear of failure. Many times a lack of ambition is simply due to the fear of failing, which can prevent people from trying the activity in the first place (if you don’t try, you can’t fail). But hypnosis helps adjust those thoughts to focus on what you can gain, and the gain is always greater than what occurs if you fail.

With hypnosis, you can adjust both of these problems, and give yourself greater ambition to achieve success in the future. In the next post, I will elaborate more on why ambition is important and how hypnosis is a great way to alter your state and become the “go getter” that will achieve success in life.

How to Improve Your Ambition

Ambition is an important tool. Unless you were born into wealth and had happiness fall into your lap, everything good in your life required that you went out and got it yourself. Without ambition, those good things would never have occurred. But ambition is also a fleeting tool, and one that is often put on the shelf in place of comfort and laziness. If you want to end the redundancy of your own life, you need to take action. Below are some helpful tips for improving your ambition on your own.

Check Your Associations – Are the people you surround yourself with validating your own laziness? Are they encouraging your lack of action? Social support is a great way to become ambitious, but it is also a powerful way to suppress it.

Read Inspirational Things – Whether you believe you will benefit from inspirational books or not, the truth is that reading inspirational things can help you focus your mind on hope and possibilities, giving you motivation for success in the future.

Set Goals – When you have goals for yourself, you are motivated to achieve them. By setting realistic, detailed and achievable goals and putting dates for when they should be attained, you can keep yourself looking to what you need to do in the future.

Each of these tips can help you start to regain your natural ambition so that you can achieve the success that you want for yourself. When these little things are not enough, a great way to improve your ambition and reduce the monotony in your life is through the amazing powers of hypnosis.

Finding Motivation and Ambition in Life

Life is characterized by monotony. Even though there may be differences here and there, what to expect in life has been mapped out by the billions of people that have come before us.

We are born.

We go to school/learn.

We have relationships or we don’t.

We work or we don’t.

We get married or we don’t.

We have kids or we don’t.

We get old, smelly and grouchy.

We die.

It is not uncommon to get lost in this monotony and to find yourself allowing days, weeks, months and years to pass without making any real changes in your life. You may be jobless or in need of a new job, or you may simply be sitting at home every night getting nothing accomplished and letting your days get longer and longer.

Whatever is occurring, you only live once, and your life should be filled with as many accomplishments as you can manage. This is a fact that no one denies, yet its knowledge rarely (if ever) leads to any action. Despite knowing that as time slips by you have less time to do what you want to do, it is hard to motivate yourself to get up, get out there, and take action.

In the next blog post, I will show you practical tips for improving your own motivation and ambition.

NLP for Life Changes Part 3

In my last post I gave you a brief introduction to anchoring – a useful tool that can help you adjust to new surroundings when you are experiencing new life changes. Anchoring is one of several different types of NLP tools that an NLP expert can use to help you overcome major life changes.

One of the reasons anchoring is so useful is because it allows you to condition your own emotions to a stimulus that you control. This basic behavioural principle is extremely effective – by associating a “state” to a stimulus, you can experience that state every time you perform the action.

Anchoring for major life changes is even more effective than anchoring for other issues, because the state that you want to experience is powerful – it is the state you lost when you experienced the life change. You want to feel as you did before the major life change occurred, so you can anchor the emotions that you felt before the life change, so that you can access that emotion in your new surroundings.

Anchoring a great example of how both NLP and hypnosis are able to effectively reduce the stress and fear of a new situation, and it is one of several techniques that can make your life transitions easier on your mind and body.

NLP for Life Changes Part 2

In my last post, I discussed how NLP can be used to reduce your stress levels and help you adjust to your new surroundings when you have made major life changes. Life changes can be stressful, and many of the available NLP techniques teach you how to reduce your stress in these new situations.

One of the techniques that you can learn is that of anchoring. Anchoring is a highly effective NLP technique that involves triggering an emotion in yourself using a stimulus that you also provide for yourself. It is based on well researched behaviour theories, and designed to change the way you deal with stress and anxiety.

Anchoring works as follows:

•Deciding a state of mind (being relaxed, for example).
•Recall a time that you experienced this state of mind.
•Anchor the feelings you experience reminiscing on this time to a behaviour, like tapping a finger.
•Change your state and test the anchor.

Once you have done this effectively, anchoring will allow you to bring yourself to the relaxed and low stress state you want every time you tap your finger, or perform whatever other stimulus you chose to anchor the state to.

This technique has shown itself to be highly effective at allowing you to adjust to your new life changes, because it can help you reduce your stress whenever you are experiencing it. In the next post, I will explain why this technique works so well.

NLP for Life Changes Part 1

One of the major emotional states that comes when you experience a major life change is stress. The stress of the new experience can feel debilitating at times. However, overcoming this major life change requires that you are psychologically ready to do so, and the only way this will be possible is if you learn to reduce your stress levels when you are experiencing high anxiety in the new situation.

NLP offers a solution. Using various NLP techniques, you can find ways to train yourself to become less stressed in a new situation – allowing you to feel as comfortable and relaxed as you felt in your previous comfort zone.

NLP Solutions to New Life Changes

NLP is designed to train you to essentially reprogram your brain – in this case, for relaxation/comfort to the new situation. There are a variety of techniques that an NLP expert will use to do this. One example of such a technique is with an anchoring method that can get you to relax regardless of the situation. In the next post, I will show you one of the quick ways to experience greater relaxation to your new surrounding, allowing you to easily adjust to the new scenario that you find yourself in.
